Willow the Wonderer is a five-star children's book

July 13, 2022

We are six months into the release of Willow the Wonderer and on track to sell-out of the first print-run pretty soon. It has certainly been an interesting few years and through it all, the book reviews we've received from our readers have kept us going.

We are thrilled to report that Willow the Wonderer continues to have a perfect *five-star* rating! "Beautiful" is how most of our readers describe the book.

It seems that everyone, from great grandchildren to great grandparents, are falling in love with Willow the Wonderer - our hearts could not be more glad.

We share some highlights from the reviews, the 'backstory' and a sneak peek of what's coming next.

Willow the Wonderer rubs shoulders with Australia's literati at the Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival

June 11, 2022

The Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival is a celebration of Australian writing. It's one of Australia's most important literary events and this year's program included our very own, Willow the Wonderer.

We may very well have been the first picture book author and illustrator to have been on the main program of a literary festival!

We told the story and the stories behind the story. It was a delight to see 'kids' of all ages settle back and soak it all in.

We exhibited at our first ever trade show - here's what we learnt and loved!

March 11, 2022

Australia had it's first trade show after two years a few weeks ago - AGHA's Sydney Gift Fair, at the Sydney Olympic Park - and we were there for it! It was our first first retail trade show and boy did we learn a lot.

It was wonderful to get great feedback on our book, toy and gift set, and receive a lot of unexpected love from strangers and coaching from fellow exhibitors! And yes, also learn from some rather costly rookie mistakes...

Here's a download of all that we learnt and loved.

Willow the Wonderer is Heading Overseas!

Feb 26, 2022

We are excited to share some great news! As of yesterday, Monica Mirpuri Matias is our official foreign rights agent, entrusted with representing rights to Willow the Wonderer in the European, UK and Latin American markets.

Willow the Wonderer will make it's debut in the rights markets in March this year at the Bologna Children's Book Fair (BCBF), the leading professional fair for children's books in the world. Excited to see our 'unlikely hero' feature in Monica's catalogue.

True to form, Wise As Stories will be running a quirky new campaign to launch Willow the Wonderer. Dubbed #UnlikelyHero, it will be spear-headed by a 'book trailer' created in conjunction with the creatives from the mid-north coast.

Media Release:
Wise As Stories is officially open for business

October 11, 2021

After an 18 month incubation period, Reeta Dhar and Darren Pryce are excited to announce the launch of Wise As Stories, a hybrid publisher, distributor and bookseller.

Story making is at the heart of Wise As Stories with the hybrid model allowing them to stay intimately involved in the creation, production and distribution of their stories.

The inspiration for Wise As Stories came at the start of the COVID pandemic in March 2020 when Reeta and Darren realised they both shared a desire to 'create stories that they wish they'd grown up with'. This has become the founding mission for the organisation.

Our first ever 'Willow the Wonderer' story-time with the Crescent Head Playgroup

July 15, 2021

The Macleay Argus covered our first ever 'Willow the  Wonderer' story-time with the beautiful community at the Crescent Head Playgroup a few weeks ago.

We loved our day with the playgroup. After all, you never really know if your picture book is any good until you read it aloud to children.

The books have arrived but so has Delta

July 12, 2021

It was with great delight that we welcomed the shipment of the first print run of Willow the Wonderer to our shores at the beginning of July! To our dismay it coincided with the arrival of the 'Delta Variant' of COVID into Sydney ... which we are effectively locked out from!

Whilst Reeta's mum and dad graciously received the delivery for us, due to the risk of transmission posed by even casual contact with essential services staff, we have decided to delay the shipment of our books till after the lockdown. Let's hope it will be soon.

We thank all our customers who pre-ordered for their patience and understanding and remain open for new order. All orders come with a free eBook available to download instantly.

Darren Pryce Paints Brittany Higgins' Portrait for Archibald 100

May 22, 2021

Darren Pryce, co-founder of Wise As Stories, is an award-winning illustrator and an innovative artist. His latest contribution to the artscape in Australia is a neo-classical portrait of Brittany Higgins for the Archibald Prize, now in it's 100th year.

Darren's motivation for painting Brittany Higgins was to give voice to women who have been silenced by the patriarchy.

Linda Morris, arts writer for the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age profiled Darren's painting in weekend paper.
