What is the best picture book for bedtime stories for toddlers?

All Willow the Wonderer picture books are great for bedtime stories -- so many of our customers have told us that parents enjoy them as much as the kids! Written in rhyme, the melodic stanzas are a perfect way to lull the little ones into dreamland. The best bit is that all the stories have a beautiful ending that is both comforting and enlightening to readers, young and old. But if I had to pick just one book from the series, I'd choose the second Willow the Wonderer book, Honey Time. I explain why below.

Honey Time instill a sense of calmness, perfect for bedtime stories.

A short synopsis of Honey Time

Honey Time starts of with a bang!

Willow jumps out of bed, literally bursting with a million ideas of all the things he was going to get up to that day. He sets off in a mad rush, creating chaos and ruckus everywhere he goes. As he runs about like a headless chook, the queen been decides to teach him a little lesson. She encases him in a big blob of honey and it is what finally gets him to slow down and start taking things at a much gentler pace.

Yes, Honey Time is about slowing down and cultivating a deep sense of stillness and contentment within - and then engaging with the world from that space of awareness and calm.

Unsurprisingly, once Willow finally calms down, he begins to see all the wonders he had rushed past and returns backed the home contented and happy.

What could possibly make for a better bedtime story than this?

The perfect book for bedtime stories

Honey Time is in fact my favourite story from the Willow the Wonderer series, as it is quirky, funny and very inventive (even if I say so myself!).

I paid a lot of attention to the words that I used in this book ensuring that it reflected the arch of the narrative and together with the rhythm and rhyme, helped switch the nervous system from the sympathetic (active) to the parasympathetic (relax) - perfect for a bedtime story.

The illustrations also add another layer of magic and if the little ones have a final reserve of energy left, there is one last task you can put them to: Find all the echidnas that Darren has very sneakily hidden on every page!

In our modern society which is all about go/go/go, where even kids are engaged in one activity or another from morning till evening, this is a wonderful books for both children and parents to wind down with, together. I hope you give it a go!
