Well folks, all that is left to say and do now is to bid adieu to 2025 and welcome 2026. Thank you for your support through the year. We hope you enjoy sharing our little wise ass's adventures with your little wise asses ;-)
The stories that we grow up with really do matter so thank you for broadening your grandchildren's, children's, students' and readers' horizons. Given the way the future is panning out, they will no doubt need it.
The way we live and work today would have been unimaginable 20 years ago, so it is anyone's guess what our world will be like in another decade or two. The one thing we can be sure of is that it will change and like generations of humans before us, we will need to adapt and go with the times.
The things that endure through these changes is our human spirit, the aspiration to be happy, and to see our families and communities enjoy peace, love and good fortune.
Increasingly, the knowledge and experience that these qualities are mind states that first need to be cultivated within, is becoming mainstream and uncontroversial. Hopefully, it will become a standard part of early childhood education in the not too distant future.
In our own practice, even decades later, we find that there are days when we slip and resort to reactivity and anger. Encouragingly, these bouts are becoming less and less frequent, with the time spent 'burning' in these negative state shorter. We come out of these negative mind states with remorse and the resolve to do better -- and that is the best we can hope for.
Final thing worth acknowledging is that the holiday season tends to bring up a lot of mixed emotions; human relationships, even our closest ones, are fraught in the best of times. For some this is a time of boundless joyous and for others not so much. In Australia this year, there is no doubt going to be an element of poignancy around it all.
So be kind to yourself and others. Know that everyone is showing up and doing the best they can. And to those who don't manage to show up, send your love anyway.
Take care, merry christmas and happy holidays.
With all our love,
Reeta and Darren
P.S. On more practical matters, we are retreating as usual to the bush for one to two weeks from the 23rd of December. P.P.S.S. It is still possible for folks in metro regions of NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT & SA to receive parcels prior to Christmas so long as you use Express Shipping and place it by Sunday (21st).
