Lady Jane's
Guide to the World
21st century travel guides with 19th century wit.
(and lots of pretty pictures)
Caught
in a time loop
"Having departed my carriage in the year 1815 and arrived, somewhat abruptly, in the middle of a place called 'Kings Cross,' I find the current state of London to be remarkably withdrawn, if not, excessively shy; the extraordinary lengths to which a modern Londoner goes to avoid, even the hint of an eye contact, would put the meekest of ladies of my time to shame.
Even the London ball is no more. One is told that a ride on the 'Golden Eye' is now the height of culture; I assure you, it is merely a trap for the most gullible of Bourgeoisie.
If you wish to find the marrow of this city—the London that remains impervious to the influencer types—follow me to the corners where the ink still smells of history and the tea is served without a plastic lid."

Excerpt from Lady Jane's Diary
First Impressions of a Time Traveller

A kaleidoscope of cultures
(and considerably improved cuisine)
"Modern-day London has been a shock to my otherwise finely tuned sensibilities. In the privacy of one's diary, one must confess, not ever in my wildest moments of inhibition, did I ever imagine that one day, the colonies would move in ...
As confronting as such state of affairs is to one's prejudice, it is with some pride I look upon the generations that have followed and the values they, somewhat loudly), espouse -- Upholding human (which these days include women) rights and equality has rendered saints of them all. From what I can see, they are also reaping the benefits of their high mindedness; seeing as they are able to enjoy the spoils of the colonies, without needing to wage any wars nor set out on dangerous expeditions (The "working holiday" to Australia is a rare exception to the case).
If nothing else, the mixing of the cultures has considerably improved London's cuisine. Admittedly, not everyone is happy with the state of affairs, but then, when has everyone ever been absolutely happy, about anything? This is not to make light of legitimate grievances; one would never suppose to do such a thing. It is merely to point out that from a time traveller's eye, Londoners have overcome matters of greater gravity and consequence -- this current chapter of discontent will likely be confined to the footnote of history.
I for one am determined not to be drawn into vexing matters and shall duly return to taking the airs of this exhilarating city, whilst undertaking a thorough anthropological study on the courting rituals of modern Londers; one has it on good authority, much has changed!

Reeta Dhar
Reeta 'discovered' Sense and Sensibility in the English Literature section of her university's library at the ripe old age of 19. She had never heard of the book or its infamous author before ... For three straight days, she read little else. It seeded a lifelong love for classical English literature. When it came time to write about her other great love - Travel - Reeta could think of no better voice to channel than that of regency-era lady, caught in a time-loop! For most of her life, Reeta has felt the same.

Darren Pryce
Darren was forced to study Pride and Prejudice in school. He only watched the BBC adaptations for material to pass his exams ... We'll forgive him though as art and illustration have always been his true love, with his versatility in the field being what sets him apart. Darren channels the best of the regency style for this new collaboration, bringing the quaint intimacy of a diary to these thoroughly useful travel guides.
