Sneak Peek: Watch the pilot episode of our 'Wise As Podcast'

I remember reading a case study on Madonna at university. Believe it or not, this was for my Master's Degree in Commerce …

The central theme was that Madonna was one of the few pop music stars who had managed to carve out a decades long career in what is usually a fiercely trendy and youth oriented scene. This was due to one thing that Madonna did better than any other pop singer at the time: Every ten years or so, she completely reinvented herself.

I remember saying to myself - be like Madonna.

Strangely, my life has followed a similar trajectory. Every five to ten years, I have changed direction. And here we are again - five years into the Wise As 'journey', we are reinventing ourselves.

Reinventing Wise As Stories

As we do the work to produce the fifth and final Willow the Wonderer picture book, we are experimenting with a newish, yet incredibly popular medium on which to share our message - Podcasts!

Sharing with you all our very first episode, where Darren and I talk about our 'origin story' - How we got started with Wise As Stories.

It's only a nine minute episode so hope you find the time to take a listen :)

Back to where it all began

It was serendipitous that our plans to start working on the podcast coincided with housesitting the lovely property where we first met (and still rent a cottage in). Nestled in the Nambucca Valley, in NSW's Mid North Coast, it is a few minutes' walk to a pristine headland and beach.

Darren had a brainwave that we shoot this episode at the exact spot where we met - near the weathered bones of a whale. This had washed up ashore decades ago and was brought here by the wonderful lady who has for decades taken care of this land, as a sculptural piece, symbolising the connection between the land and the sea.

The familiarity of the location perhaps gave us, two introverted recluses, the will to finally front the cameras and tell our story. Not all of us seek or relish in the spotlight - indeed privacy and anonymity are very precious in this day and age, and certainly something that we hold dear.

But what recent world events has shown us is that the cause we are working towards (to leave behind a wiser world) is larger than us, and perhaps, more important now than ever.

If 30 mins in front of a camera, every two weeks, helps this cause, then it’s the least we can do.

It also gives us an excuse to seek out magical spots in the great outdoors to shoot these episodes.

Help us out :)

If you have nine minutes to spare, please play and stream the podcasts - and let us know what you think.

If you can, please stream the whole episodes (it helps appease the algorithms gods) and hit the like and subscribe button on YouTube. We are planning to record a new ~30 minute conversation every two weeks so don't worry, we won't be inundating you with stuff to watch.

The podcast is also available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts so if that is your usual place to go for podcasts, feel free to listen there.

The conversations we are planning to have on these podcasts will be focused on life and living in an ever changing world and what it means for ordinary folks who like us, are trying to leave the world in a better shape than we found it.

You will hear from Darren and I and in time, other wonderful people in our lives who have valuable things to say and share.

Thank you in advance for listening.

Our Podcast will remain paywall free.

You can support our work by spreading the seeds of wisdom.

Next time you have to buy a gift for a little one in your life, please consider Willow the Wonderer books - It's a great gift for grandkids, nieces, nephews, your own kids, their friends and cousins.
